Using the SEEN trait

Summary

The purpose of this knowledge base article is to describe how to use the SEEN (last sighted) trait in Stockbook.

Detailed Description

Introduction

The purpose of this knowledge base article is to describe how to use the SEEN (last sighted) trait in Stockbook.

The last sighted trait allows you to record every time you have seen an animal. This information can be viewed from within the animals list and a full history of when the animal was seen can be viewed from within the animal's trait screen.

Enabling the Trait

To enable the trait:

  1. Select Setup | Performance | Traits from the Stockbook main menu.
  2. At the top of the Traits screen tick on Include Inactive to view inactive traits.
  3. Find the SEEN trait in the list of traits and select the Edit button to edit the trait setup.
  4. Untick Inactive and hit the OK button.

Viewing Last Seen on the Animals List

To view the trait on the animals list:

  1. Open up the animals list - Animals | Current from the Stockbook main menu.
  2. Select the change display button.
  3. Find Last Seen in the list of available columns and tick it.
  4. Select the close button.

Manually applying the SEEN Trait in Stockbook

To append the SEEN Trait manually in Stockbook after an event:

  1. Select animals that were handled on a specific date
  2. Click on the Events | Traits (Single) | OK | Set specific date of 'Last SEEN' | Select SEEN in the Trait dropdown menu | Put the number 1 in the Vaule | OK
  3. Click YES to apply the trait
  4. Click Cancel

Using the SEEN Trait in Live Entry

To record that an animal has been sighted you should add the SEEN trait to all of your Live Entry templates. To add the trait to you data entry template:

  1. Open Live Entry and select the activity you wish to add the seen trait to.
  2. Select Setup | Data Entry Template to edit the data entry template.
  3. Find the Traits section on the Available Options list and expand it (click on the little +).
  4. Find the Animal Sighted (Index) entry and tick it.
  5. Select the OK button.

This will place the seen trait on the data entry panel. Simply assign a value to it (could just be a 1, it really doesn't matter though) and then start processing animals. Every time you save an animal it will add the SEEN trait to the animal. Note that the value assigned to the trait only needs to be set once and it will be maintained for every subsequent animal processed during that session.
