Setting Up EBV's

Summary

How do I setup which EBV's (Estimated Breeding Values) I would like to be displayed?

Detailed Description

Stockbook gives you the flexibility of setting up your program for any trait analysis system (eg. EBV's, EPD's etc.) However, to do that it requires you to tell it which system you are using and which values you want used with their names. The program comes with the system set for EBV's.

Note: Depending which type of animal you select from the Animals drop down menu, there is a default button Set Standard Breedplan (for Cattle) or Set Standard Lambplan (for Sheep). (There is no default Trait Analysis System for Alpacas, Deers, Goats or Horses) This allows you to setup your codes and descriptions to be consistent with a standard Breedplan or Lambplan import. You can then modify any code or descriptions if you wish.

Step 1:

  • Click on the Setup > Performance > Trait Analysis System menu option.

Alternatively, In the main animal screen click on EBV from the blue tabs at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2:

  • If you are in 'Cattle', click on the Set Standard Breedplan button.
  • If you are in 'Sheep', click on the Set Standard Lambplan button.
  • Click Yes to Confirm message: 'This will replace your existing codes and descriptions with those that match the order which the Standard Lambplan (or Breedplan) import uses. Proceed?'

Step 3:

  • Select up to 19 EBVs and up to 6 Breed Objects by ticking the Use  check box beside each Code . You must select at least one of each.
  • Click Close button to save your settings.

Note:

Other Options:

  • You may select a colour that indicates animals performing well for a particular trait, by clicking on the required trait and then clicking on High Colour. You then need to indicate the starting point for high performers. Thereafter, wherever that trait is displayed, it will be appropriately coloured if its value is greater than or equal to the entered high value. You can tick a box to indicate that you want that colouring applied on the printed EBV report. Colouring will still take place on other EBV data displays, regardless of the status of this box.
  • You may select a colour that indicates animals performing badly for a particular trait, by clicking on the required trait and then clicking on Low Colour. You then need to indicate the starting point for low performers. Thereafter, wherever that trait is displayed, it will be appropriately coloured if its value is less than or equal to the entered low value. You can tick a box to indicate that you want that colouring applied on the printed EBV report. Colouring will still take place on other EBV data displays, regardless of the status of this box.
  • You can select the amount of Decimal places that display for a breeding value and also select if the number has been brought in as a Percentage.
  • You may setup the entire system, even if you only record to a few of them, because you can control the ones that display by turning on and off the codes you want. Put a tick in the 'Use' box of the ones you want.
  • Adding Alpha Numeric Traits is possible on certain Breed Objects (24 & 25)
  • Use All (to tick all boxes) and Use None (to untick all boxes).
