PS Cashbook

Network Installation

Summary

How do I install Cashbook Plus! on a Network or a Terminal Server Environment?

Detailed Description

Pre-installation Notes

If Cashbook will be run using any time of remote-style connection (e.g. Remote Desktop, Terminal Server, Citrix Server, etc) the Advantage Database Server must be installed prior to installing and running Cashbook. The Advantage Database Server is licenced based on the concurrent/simultaneous users (e.g. If five people need access to Cashbook, but only two need simultaneous access, a 2 user licence is required). Pricing is available on request.

If Cashbook is running in a peer-to-peer style connection, use of the Advantage Database Server is optional, although recommended for improved performance and database integrity.

These instructions are designed for Network Administrators.

Please note: IPv6 may cause database connection issues. Please disable IPv6 before attempting to run the application.

Step 1 - Installation

  1. Install Cashbook Plus to your preferred location (default is C:\Program Files (x86)\PracSys\CBPlus) on the Server.
  2. Share this folder with all users who need access to Cashbook Plus, with a minimum of Read/Execute permissions.

If you have an existing installation in C:\CBPlus, do not install Cashbook there without contacting Practical Systems.

Step 2 - Data Location

  1. The default location for Cashbook's data is C:\ProgramData\PracSys\C\Program Files (x86)\PracSys\CBPlus. This directory (and its content) may be moved if required. (See Step 3.1 for additional steps required).
  2. When sharing this folder, all users who need access to Cashbook Plus, with full Read/Write/Create permissions. If you are using the Advantage Database Server:
    • This folder should not be shared to other users as a mapped drive. The path specified in Step 3 must be a UNC path.
    • Also share this folder with SYSTEM user, with full Read/Write permissions.

Step 3 - Configuration

  1. Go to the install folder from Step 1 and open the Programs folder. Edit the CBPlus.ini file and modify the DatabaseLocation line to match the new location. This must be a UNC path (e.g. \\myserver\cashbook data), rather than a mapped drive (e.g. z:\cashbook data).
  2. If you have the Advantage Database Server installed on the server with the data (from Step 2), change DatabaseType to 0.
